Al Aqsa mosque

When my wife and I were in the Old City, we tried to enter the Al Aqsa mosque, but by the afternoon it was closed off for that day to non-Muslims.

The man on the left told us about some of the recent history of Al Aqsa. In 2000, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon came to it with hundreds of police and soldiers, in a display of might that many say was intended to intimidate the Palestinian people. Clashes broke out, and Palestinian protesters were gunned down and killed by Israeli police and army. This was the beginning of the second intifada.
