The Souq

The Souq is the Palestinian market in Hebron. Due to the recent violence, people there have been getting very little business.

In addition to this, they also must face Israeli settlers, who will throw things down at them as they shop and sell their wares.

The metal mesh above is effective in stopping things like bottles (if they are empty or sealed), and rocks.

Water, bleach, eggs, and urine do get through, and hit the people below. The Israeli Army, there to protect the settlers, does not usually intervene.

People shopping in the market

A Palestinian man who I met when I was in Hebron four years ago. He sells beautiful fabric, some of which my wife bought. One of his fabrics was recently destroyed when an egg that a settler threw from below stained it.
